What People Are Saying About Pumpkinheads!

I really enjoyed this story and feel the book is very easy for children to relate to. It is beautifully illustrated, teaches a clear message of character development and has a familiar rhyming pattern all children enjoy. It is refreshing to read a story that focuses on such a positive message.

~ Kathleen Hayden, First Grade Teacher, Grandview Preparatory School

Bright and sunny characters, expressive faces, and attractive art catches the young child’s eye. Awareness building about themselves and others is really key in these books. Common themes of sharing, self-esteem, reverence for the natural world, feeling alone or loved, and making the world a better place are great topics for young children and beyond. Reading, reviewing and reflecting with children about these topics is a great start for these themes to be introduced to them. Using these rhyming books for discussion and pointing out real world examples will further deepen the understanding of these lessons in life. Great books!

~ Academics’ Choice

The Pumpkinheads series involves protagonists who represent a mix of racial backgrounds and ethnicities. The characters appear woven throughout the series and each one seems to have his or her own distinct personality. The stories help children build awareness and acceptance of their feelings by portraying the often turbulent emotions that children experience at this young age. I found the books to be a great tool for teaching about emotions and delivering positive messages. Children will become attached to this series’ particular characters and literary style, leading them to be eager and excited to read more.

As fans of Dr. Seuss, we love to hear and see the variations of books with fun text and pictures, and sometimes learn a lesson or two! This series is easy enough for early learners to read themselves and pour over the illustrations, enjoying the book and story yet again. You and your kids will not tire of reading these together.
